How to use them

  • Keep them close to you

  • Keep the volume low

  • Use them as side fills for whole band

Ways I hook them up

  • From an Aux Mix from the main mixing board (standard old school)

  • Out from an Aviom unit (personal monitor mixer) - Make your own mix - use speaker instead of in ears

  • Put a small amp on stage right under you and point it at your face

  • It’s good for you to hear and won’t bother anyone else

  • Can be a small amp - even a small practice amp ( I used to come out of the output of my floor pod)

Why I Love Them

  • You can get your own awesome mix (if you are using an app or avian units)

  • You can save your hearing (turn stuff way down)

  • You can get rid of the loud stage volume

ADDED BENEFIT - YOU CAN RUN A CLICK AND TRACKS - In ears are required for this type of setup

Why I Hate Them

  • Can make you feel disconnected from the performance/audience

  • If the mix isn’t perfect, it is very distracting

  • You can damage your hearing (wearing only one or listening too loud)

  • You lose the feel of the band/music

TIP:  To make them really work, you need your OWN mix you can tweak yourself + YOU NEED A ROOM MIC to mix in.
